3 Kid-Friendly Activities You Can Drive to Near Chapmanville, WV

Chief Logan State Park

Drive in comfort when taking the whole brood for a fantastic day out at Chief Logan State Park, located at 376 Little Buffalo Creek Road. Enjoy a smooth ride in your roomy and elegant new 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander and turn heads as you arrive at one of the most popular parks in West Virginia. Weather permitting, captivating outdoor performances at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater are one of its most popular attractions.

Nestled among the magnificent West Virginian mountains, this 4,000-acre sanctuary is home to camping facilities and hiking trails while also offering geocaching, biking, and fishing. You can swim in either the indoor or outdoor pool, with the outdoor one even offering a water slide. Mini golf opens from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm from Memorial Day to Labor Day, or you can enjoy a game of tennis or basketball for a very small fee.

Waterways

Known as one of the best water parks and amphitheaters in West Virginia, this exciting attraction is a short drive away in Julian and can be found at 628 Waterway Road. Its contemporary new amphitheater hosts fantastic live music and performances where you can relax in comfortable seats to enjoy the show. Meanwhile, state-of-the-art lighting and sound equipment both guarantee a truly outstanding experience.

The park offers fun for all the family by way of body slides and a tube slide that empties visitors into the lazy river, although children must be at least 44 inches tall to enjoy the slides. There is still plenty of fun to be had for little ones thanks to the children’s pool and kiddy island, which has smaller slides, swings, and a water umbrella that are all suitable for younger children.

Laurel Lake Wildlife Management Area

Located in South Charleston at 324 4th Avenue, this is one of the most untouched natural lakes in the whole of West Virginia. Its tranquil, wild beauty includes 12,856 acres of a rocky and rugged landscape with narrow valleys and ponderous pathways surrounded by beautiful vegetation, including colorful mountain laurel shrubs and majestic native trees. A true paradise indeed!

The lake itself is home to catfish, bluegill, and bass, making it the perfect setting for fishing, and there’s even a small play area for younger children. A unique attraction here comes in the form of the mysterious Dingess Petroglyphs, two intriguing large boulders discovered by coal miners in 1987. The story behind them remains a mystery, but some archaeologists date them back as much as 1400 years.

All three options guarantee a great day out for the whole family. Let the kids swim, cycle, or fish at Chief Logan State Park, join your child as they ride the thrilling slides at Waterways water park, or spend the day together enjoying the great outdoors at Laurel Lake Wildlife Management Area. Then be sure to make a stop at Thornhill Mitsubishi to see the superb choice of new and used cars that we have to offer.
