The subcompact hatchback Mirage is Mitsubishi’s budget-friendly everyday driver. This small car gets excellent fuel economy, and it has a surprisingly spacious cargo area. The 2020 Mirage has just a few changes from the previous year. Mitsubishi dropped the RF trim from the lineup and added automatic climate control as a standard feature for all trim levels. The Mirage is one of the only cars in its class to have this as standard equipment. Here is a look at some of the other features you can get with this compact car from Mitsubishi.

  1. The Exterior

The base Mirage ES has 14-inch steel wheels, a rear spoiler, LED taillights, and power windows and door locks. The LE adds 15-inch alloy wheels, black housings for the side mirrors, and a black finish for the wheels. Choosing the SE gets you 14-inch alloy wheels and fog lights, and the GT brings back the 15-inch alloy wheels but adds a two-tone finish, and it comes with bi-xenon HID headlights.

  1. The Interior

The Mirage has room for five in its cabin. Both rows of seats have plenty of head and shoulder space, and there are two sets of LATCH connectors for child car seats. Standard features include cruise control, a manually adjustable driver’s seat and front passenger seat, and a split-folding rear seat. The LE adds an armrest for the driver’s seat, and it also comes with heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The sporty SE comes with keyless entry and ignition and adds automatic climate control.

In the back, a 17.5-cubic-foot cargo area behind the rear seat has plenty of space for storing gear, and this can increase to 47 cubic feet with the seats folded down.

  1. The Technology

A 7-inch display screen comes standard in the Mirage, along with a USB port, Bluetooth, and a four-speaker stereo system. The LE adds a 6.5-inch touch-screen display with Mitsubishi’s infotainment system that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This upgraded system also has an HD radio and a Rockford Fosgate stereo system.

  1. The Power and Performance

Power for the Mirage Hatchback comes from a 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine that develops 78 horsepower. It has a five-speed manual transmission that comes standard and offers the option for a continuously variable automatic transmission. The fuel economy in this hatch is excellent. It can get up to 36 miles per gallon in the city and 43 mpg highway.

  1. The Safety Features

The Mirage received a safety rating of four out of five stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Every trim comes standard with a rearview camera, and Mitsubishi offers the option for front and rear parking sensors. The Mirage also comes with an active stability control system and seven air bags, including side-curtain air bags and one mounted under the driver’s side dashboard.

Mitsubishi’s RISE body construction, or Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution body, helps keep passengers in the Mirage safe. This construction uses crumple zones to help absorb energy in a high-impact collision.
